Does Netflix Give Indie Filmmakers a Raw Deal?
Yes, according to indie film consultant, Tracy Balsz, in an article from the Hollywood Reporter. In short, the article concludes that it’s nice that Netflix pays, but there are other outlets that pay more. And, it’s a drag that Netflix forces filmmakers to press their own dvd’s then only pays a flat fee if the movie performs well. More here.

Lionsgate to Begin Producing Microbudget Films
Lionsgate announced today that it will be making microbudget movies, in the $2 million and below range, with the first three on deck to be comedies and thrillers. I think it’s hilarious that Lionsgate makes a big news announcement that they’re returning to the business model that made them so successful in the first place. “Saw” cost only $1.2 mil to produce.
